For most detectorists, especially beginners, the false signals are often heard in metal detecting. False signals are sometimes called "phantom" signals. They will mislead the detectorists that the metal detector find some items when there is actually no target there.

The false signals are often heard in metal detecting

The reason why false signals happen is that the natural iron oxides, such as magnetite and hematite. Magnetite is the primary constituent of the "black sand" that commonly occurs in placer gold deposits. Our new MD-6200 professional metal detector has the function of automatic ground balancing. This function will reduce the mineralization so that to avoid false signals in detecting.

On the other hand, if the metal detector has a manual ground-balance adjustment, you can usually tune out false signals. And if the detecting place changes, the detectorist also need to tune the ground balance. The sensitivity can be reduced if the mineralization is too heavy.
